Bengaluru: BJP MLA Madaal Virupakshappa tendered his resignation from the post of Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL) chairman following the arrest of his son Prashanth in a bribery case.

In his resignation letter addressed to chief minister Bommai, MLA Virupakshappa said that he is resigning due to moral responsibility because of the accusations against him. “I have nothing to do with the Lokayukta raids  The trap is a conspiracy against me and his family,” he stated.

On Thursday evening, Prashanth, the chief accounts officer of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from a contractor at the Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL) office.

The MLA’s son had demanded Rs 81 lakh and Rs 40 lakh was the first installment. The contractor had approached the Lokayukta a week ago and the trap was laid.

The Lokayukta sources said on Friday they recovered Rs six crore in cash from Prashanth’s house.
