Lorry mows down youth riding scooter; another injured

Kundapur: A young man died on the spot and another person was grievously injured and admitted into a hospital after a lorry hit the two-wheeler they riding from the rear near the graveyard on national highway 66 at Koteshwar on the night of Sunday August 4.
The deceased is identified as Vivek (25) from Gavali, Saligrama in Brahmavar taluk, who was working as manager of Pai Sales showroom at Kundapur. The deceased was riding pillion on a scooter being driven by Sharanraj (26), who was Vivek’s colleague. The latter suffered critical injuries and has been admitted into a private hospital at Koteshwar.
The victims were travelling in a scooter towards Udupi from here. They had just bought petrol from a service station and joined the highway after covering the service road when a lorry that came from behind hit their scooter hurling both of them on the road. Within moments Vivek came under the wheels of the lorry and his body from beneath his waist was completely crushed.
Traffic movement along the highway was hampered for sometime due to the accident however, Kundapur police rushed to the spot and normalized the flow.
