Karwar: A man who threw his infant into Kali River and attempted to end his life too was rescued by the police and fire administrations work force, on Wednesday.
Shankara Banjara (40) a construction worker from Hangal, was the man who attempted to commit suicide. He jumped into the river along with his infant on Tuesday night. Both were rescued by workers of the Devbagh Beach Resort and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
On Wednesday, Shankara Banjara escaped from the hospital naked and went to the Kali River and jumped into it once more. Without drowning, he swam to the shore and was located sitting on the NH 66 by an observer. In spite of the fact that some locals attempted to persuade him not to jump, he again plunged into the River; for the third time.
Police and fire administrations work force jointly saved him using a boat and admitted him to the hospital again. The infant is also under treatment at the district hospital.
A case has been registered at the Karwar police station.
