Amaravati: In a bizarre incident, a man killed his wife on Sunday, severed her head and tried to walk with it to the police station but threw it into a canal midway after onlookers raised an alarm, in Vijayawada city of Andhra Pradesh, police said. Pradeep Kumar subsequently surrendered to the police and was then arrested.
He was also facing a domestic violence case, filed by her, and was previously arrested, they said. Both of them entered into wedlock five years ago, in an inter-caste marriage, against the wishes of their parents. They stayed in Vijayawada.
Their marriage ran into trouble a couple of years ago following which she filed a criminal case while he applied for divorce, the police said. He was out of bail in the domestic violence case, they added.
On Sunday, he attacked her while she was returning from the market and killed her. He chopped her head and tried to parade it but as people raised an alarm, threw the severed head into the Budameru, a police official said. Police have a registered a murder case and launched an investigation.
