Man sentenced to 10 years RI for raping minor

Mangaluru: A person has been sentenced to 10 years do rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor and impregnating her. The special court for protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso) also fined the accused Nagappa (27), a resident of Raichur a penalty of Rs 5,000 on Thursday. The accused is married and has a child

On April 21, 2016, a Nagappa who is a daily wage labourer, had barged inside the house of the victim located at Neerude, when her parents were away at work, and raped her. He repeated the crime on multiple occasions and the crime surfaced when the victim was taken to the hospital for some checkup which revealed that she was pregnant. Bajpe police registered a case in this regard.

The special court examined 19 witness of which, 9 witness including the victim, her parents and relatives turned hostile. Eventually, DNA test, doctor and police witness lead to the arrest of the accused, informed special public prosecutor C Venkataramana Swamy, who argued on behalf of the prosecution.
