Mangaluru: Tourism Department of Dakshina Kannada district in association with Samruddi Water sports is set to open Samruddi Water sports club in Kuloor, Mangalore.

P Shivakumar Pailoor, partner of the venture informed that the club is expected to be inaugurated on January, 2, 2021 after checking the availability of District Commissioner.

The river tourism concept was proposed by the then Dakshina Kannada DC, Sasikanth Senthil in 2017.

The club shall operate four boats initially. The boats are designed in Kerala and they have names such as Kumaradhara, Netravathi, Payaswini and Phalguni. Even though the boats have a capacity of 25 people, only 12 people will be allowed to maintain social distancing norms, said Pailoor.

He further added that the boat shall ferry passengers from Kuloor bridge to Ullal or from Kuloor to Maravoor. Lifeguards will be present in the boat and all the passengers will be provided life jackets.

Moreover, 4-seater boats and house boats shall also operate and other water activities shall be introduced.

The boating center will operate from 9 am to 6.30 pm and the entrance fee will cost Rs.50 per head.

The district administration allotted 3.5 acres of land on the banks of river Gurupura to the promoters of Samruddhi Water Sports on a lease period of five years. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 1.3 crore approximately.

Pailoor also said that the club will host various cultural programmes representing the rich history of Tulunadu. The infrastructure of the club is designed by artist Dines.
