Mangaluru: B C Patil announces slew of measures for agri sector

Mangaluru: State agriculture minister B C Patil stated that 2,226 ‘Raita Mitras’ will be appointed to disseminate information and advise to farmers and more beneficial features will be added to the Kisan Card.
Patil was speaking at a meeting organised at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here attended by officials from the agriculture and related departments.
Patil explained that one Raitra Mitra will be overseeing two gram panchayats. 747 ‘Raitra Samparka Kendras’ will also be opened where crops and soil testing will be conducted.
He also stated that subsidized farm equipments are being provided to the farmers.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik speaking on the occasion stated that a survey to know the amount of uncultivated land in the district so that they can be given to farmers for cultivation. He also stated that during the lockdown many non-farmers were interested in farming and hence opportunity must be made for them too.
Patil added that the Agriculture department is planning to set up a cold storage unit in every taluk to better stock up produce.
