Mangaluru: The deep-sea mechanized fishing, which was paralyzed due to lockdown, is permissible to operate till June 14 as the central government has extended the fishing ban by two weeks informed Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary

Speaking with this regard Deputy director in the fisheries department, Parshwanath said that though the center has issued an order postponing the fish ban period by two weeks, the rule will come into force only after the state government issues an order to that effect.

According to the normal fishing season schedule followed by the fisheries department, May 31 is the last day for fishing activity and the activity resumes only after a gap of 61 days that is on August 1.

However this year is not the same, due to lockdown the fishermen have faced a lot of problems and losses, because of which, the ban has been set back by two weeks.

Meanwhile, the boat owners said that as the fishing workers have already left to their native places this postponement will not result in any major revenue for the fishing industry
