Mangaluru: Fake medical certificate racket; Three arrested

Mangaluru: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested three people including the Additional Chief Medical Superintendent of Railway Health Unit near Mangaluru Central station over a fake medical certificate scam.
The arrested accused have been identified as Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Shiva Shankar Murthy, pharmacist Vijayan V A, and broker Ibrahim.
It is said that 1,500 fake medical certificates have been issued to individuals from Southern Railway, South Western Railway, and the Konkan Railway in a span of one year.
It is said that every year, the vendors, porters, and cooks on trains and platforms have to submit medical fitness certificates mandatorily to the railway department.
Anyone who required a medical certificate would send their Aadhar card document through WhatsApp with the help of a broker. Later, a medical certificate is sent to the person via the app.
A payment of Rs 525 was collected from the person through online payment modes.
Further investigations are underway.
