Puttur: Efforts are on to convince the railways to resume Mangaluru-Miraj passenger train, which had been withdrawn earlier, said Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar speaking to media persons here on Sunday June 23.

“We will put additional efforts to improve railway connectivity of the district. Demand for running trains from Mangaluru to Guruvayoor, Subramanya-Kollur, and Mangaluru-Tirupathi, have already been placed before the railway minister in the form of proposals,”he informed.

“We had sent proposal to the government for a new bridge as an alternative to the narrow railway over-bridge on Vivekananda College Road here long back. I will put efforts to see that this demand is met. During the meeting the railway minister would be convening for individual states, our demands would be put forth and followed up,” said Nalin.

The MP requested the people to support MLA Kamath’s initiative to use banana leaves in place of plastic in hotels. He also added that shortly, the union government will be beginning a scheme of giving Rs 3,000 to people aged over 60 who run shops for the benefit of poor vendors.

Sabrimala issue

Speaking of the Sabarimala issue, the MP claimed that BJP is committed to the belief system that women between the age of 10 and 50 should not visit the shrine. Creating blocks in the observance of traditions and observations cannot be termed as secular politic, he felt.
