Mangaluru: No bus shelters between Kaikamba-Bikarnakatte!

Bikarnakatte: The peculiar absence of bus shelters in the road stretch between Kaikamba and Bikarnakatte has been inconveniencing travelers and locals here for the past many years. Though Mangaluru is being developed as a ‘Smart City’ the unavailability of basic infrastructure has irked the locals.
Locals say that a bus stop that was constructed 38 years ago was demolished for road widening and other development works. It has not been rebuilt yet. As a consequence, the bus travelers have to wait on the roadside in the scorching sun or pouring rain.
The lack of permanent bus shelters has hit the students and the senior citizens hard on this busy stretch of the road. There is a need for a bus station to protect them from rain and sun, locals said.
Irene D’Silva, a local, told Udayavani’s Sudina section, “The locals are having problems without a bus stop at Bikarnakatte. It is difficult to know where the bus halts. This causes many to miss the bus. Several petitions have been sent to the concerned authorities. But all in vain. We got only assurances, nothing has moved on the ground.”
