Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in the general meeting on Friday, September 30 accepted the proposal of renaming Suratkal Junction as Veer Savarkar junction.

Newly elected Mayor Jayanand Anchan presided over the meeting.

The council, in its meeting on October 30, last year had referred the proposal on naming the junction after Savarkar to the standing committee after MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty had submitted a proposal to the MCC.

The proposal was objected to by MCC members A C Vinayraj, Shamshad Aboobaker, Munib Bengre, and Varun Chowta. Then the standing committee made a spot inspection in February and gave its consent and presented the same in the council meeting.

The MCC will give publication to this effect in dailies and invite suggestions and objections from the public and then take a final decision in this regard.
