Mangaluru: Two-wheeler rider killed in collision with KSRTC bus near Adyar

A two-wheeler rider tragically lost his life in a collision with a KSRTC bus near Arkula Dwara, close to Adyar on the National Highway on Sunday morning.

The victim, identified as Charan Raj, a 34-year-old local resident, was entering the highway from an inner road when the bus struck him, resulting in his untimely demise.

Local Outcry:

Residents in the area expressed outrage, citing frequent accidents at the location. They attributed these incidents to what they described as “unscientific road construction” and alleged “negligence by highway authorities” in implementing safety measures.

The accident led to a temporary disruption of traffic flow as locals vented their frustrations.

Safety concerns:

Locals said the absence of a barricade to control vehicle speed at the site compounded the tragedy. A previously installed barricade meant to control speed had been knocked down by a vehicle the previous night, leaving the area vulnerable to accidents. This absence of safety infrastructure allowed the bus to approach at a high speed, resulting in the fatal collision, they added.

Locals also highlighted the presence of potholes on the road, which they claimed contributed to the accident. They urged authorities to install speed humps as a preventive measure. According to residents, more than ten fatalities have occurred at this location since the construction of the highway.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred last December, further underscoring the urgent need for action. Despite previous reports by Udayavani drawing attention to the precarious state of the accident site, authorities have yet to address the safety concerns raised by residents.

Heartbreaking Loss:

Charan Raj, the victim of the accident, hailed from Meramajalu Abbettu and worked as a mason. His untimely demise has left behind a grieving family, including his wife and young child, who relied on him as the breadwinner.
