Mangaluru: A man posing as a foreign national allegedly conned a woman into parting with Rs 13.35 on the pretext of sending a gift for her daughter’s birthday.
The victim, Julia became friends with the accused, who identified himself as Dr. Gym Kia on Facebook. The duo later began chatting on WhatsApp and recently Kia informed Julia that he would be sending a gift for her daughter’s birthday.
He later informed Julia that the customs officers delivering the gift asked for a sum of Rs 13.35 lacs in order to release the gift. He asked Julia to pay the amount as his account had some technical issue and also promised to remit money as soon as the issue was fixed.
