Mangaluru: In order to contain the spread of coronavirus in the district, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde Shanady on Wednesday said that a team comprising of officials, multi-purpose workers and health officials will visit houses in each ward to create awareness of the precautionary measures to be taken to tackle the pandemic.

Speaking to reporters here, Shanady said that while there was no need to panic, people should stay away from large gatherings and maintain personal hygiene. Pamphlets listing the precautionary measures to be taken will be distributed by MCC during the ward-wise visits, he said.

Shanady said that supermarkets will remain open for business from 10 am to 7 pm. The mall management should, however, ensure that cleanliness is maintained and there is no rush at billing counters. Supermarkets are also prohibited from using any time-bound sale offers. Alcohol-based sanitisers should be kept for customers use in the shopping areas.

As a precautionary measure, parks, gyms, swimming pools will remain shut for public. Issuing guidelines for hotels, he said that hygiene must be maintained by disinfecting the door handles, floor, billing table, etc and staff should wear hand gloves. He urged hotels owners to supply hot water to customers.

With regard to PG accommodations, Shanady said that more than two inmates should not be allowed to stay in a living room with a plinth area of 110 square- feet in the PG accommodations.

The resident welfare associations should maintain cleanliness and check the mass gathering in the apartment premises. All gyms, swimming pools, entertainment clubs, and other sports facilities in the apartments should be closed for use. Cleanliness should be maintained inside elevators. The resident welfare associations should ensure that all those quarantined should follow the guidelines of health officials. As a precautionary measure, the officials have cleared 90% of the roadside eateries in the city limits.
