Bengaluru: The city police arrested three persons in connection to the mistaken identity murder case of a 23-year-old accountant at K.R. Puram in Bengaluru.

Sai Vardhan, Sunil Kumar, and Kiran were arrested by the police while three others – Vishal, Vishwas and Arbaz – surrendered before the court earlier this week. The deceased has been identified as Chetan H, a Hebbal resident.

Passersby who sighted a partially burnt body lying near MVJ College in Hoskote on September 15 morning alerted the Hosakote police, who in turn, informed K.R. Puram police after they found that the deceased’s identity card matched with a missing complaint lodged by Chetan’s friend Vinay.

Incident synopsis:

On September 13 late night Chetan had gone to drop off his friend Vinay at Devasandra in K.R. Puram. However, on his way back he lost his way near Devasandara and approached a person seeking directions to reach Hebbal. Unfortunately for Chetan, the man Manjunath alias Koli Manja mistook him to be a member of his rival gang, and he along with his other aides brutally assaulted Chetan. The torture went on until the next day till finally, Chetan succumbed to his injuries on September 14 afternoon.

Later the gang took his body to a vacant plot near MVJ College, Hoskote and tried to dispose of it by setting it ablaze. However, owing to the rains the body got burnt only partially. The Hosakote police got information about the dead body after few persons spotted it lying here. Chetan’s friend Vinay, who had lodged a missing complaint identified the body.

According to the police some 14 persons were involved in this crime and a search is on to nab the remaining eight persons
