M’luru Airport Custom officials foil gold smuggling bid

Mangaluru: Two inbound air passengers were arrested by Mangaluru Airport Custom officials for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs sixty-four lakhs.
The arrested have been identified as Muhammed Zahir Aneez and Wasim Marzan.
On December 30, the duo arrived in Mangaluru from Dubai via flight IX 1814. Upon interception and investigation, the passengers were found to be smuggling 1.26 kilograms of gold, valuing around Rs 64,13,400 by conealing the same in their rectum.
Mangalore Air Customs team led by Dr.Kapil Gade IRS, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent Shrikanth.K, Superintendent Bikram Chakraborty, Inspector Praful Mittal and others thwarted the smuggling bid.
Commissioner of Customs, Imamuddin Ahmed, IRS and Joint Commissioner Joannes George,IRS had congratulated the officers for their vigilant action in preventing the smuggling activities.
