Surathkal: Allowing hijab in classrooms in the name of personal freedoms would hamper equality in the educational field opined Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty Y.
Retuning the volley at the Muslim Central Committee President KS Masood, the MLA said, if the hijab was allowed today, demands would be raised for Burqa in classrooms. “Where will the equality in the education system be if hijab is allowed in classrooms in the name of personal liberty?” he asked.
On Sunday, the president of the Muslim Central Committee and former MLC Haji K S Masood had criticized the MLAs in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi for trying to derive political gains from the row.
But, Bharat Shetty supported the government’s stance on uniform dress code in colleges and cautioned the Muslim Central Committee not to lead its community astray.
