Muddebihal: The lifeless body of a man was recovered from a field next to the main road in Nagarabetta village here under suspicious circumstances on Saturday morning.

The victim, identified as Kashinath Shrabhaiah Puranikamatha (30) of Talikote, worked as a physics lecturer at a private college in Nagarabetta. The mortal remains were found on the wayside at Malagaladinni cross next to the main road connecting Nagarbetta to Talikote via Adavisomanala.

The fact that the bike he was traveling on and the body were found on the opposite sides of the road, the absence of any serious injury marks nor any trace of an accident at the spot has fuelled suspicions that it could be a case of murder.

It is gathered that Kashinath was teaching at the college for the past 3 years. He had left from work on his bike at 8:20 PM on Friday, as usual, to his home in Talikote. However, he did not reach home.

His worried parents contacted the college authorities about this whereabouts but found that he had left for home as usual. They searched for him everywhere to no avail. The next morning, a person walking on the road found his dead body in a field.

The parents of the victim are adamant that this is a case of murder and not an accident.

Sources said the victim had recently been engaged to a woman. A few days ago two strangers had allegedly come to the college and warned him to call off the wedding and not to contact the woman. This incident so close to the day of the death has further raised eyebrows.

Meanwhile, Muddebihal police are investigating the matter and have registered a case in this regard.
