Agra: A group of Muslims here today handed over a memorandum addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind to district authorities, demanding safety measures for the community. They had also planned to take out a march from Shahid Smarak to the Collectorate, but it was called off in view of prohibitory orders in place.

They demanded a judicial probe into the Kasganj incident and a fair compensation to the family of Chandan Gupta, who was killed in the violence. “We gathered along with Muslim community leaders to take out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ (tricolour march) to show our love for the country and the national flag,” Shabana Khandelwal, one of the participants, said.

“Due to prohibitory orders, we were asked by the police to present the memorandum right here,” Shabana said at Shahid Smarak. “In the memorandum to the president, we have demanded safety measures for Muslims and their institutions. Also, they should not be treated as second class citizens,” Shabana added.
