Notorious rowdy Gowrish shot, arrested

Mangaluru: The police who were attempting to arrest notorious rowdy Gowrish were compelled to open fire on the accused for self-defense after the accused launched an attack on them at Jeppinamogaru on Thursday night. As a result, Gowrish was injured and has been arrested by the police.

The police had gone to arrest the accused on the backdrop of receiving several complaints accusing Gowrish of extorting money from the people through threats. Based on the information that the accused is near Jeppinamogaru, the police reached the location and attempted to arrest him when he attacked them with a knife. In response, the cops fired a shot in self-defence which resulted injuring the accused in his leg.

Gowrish is an accomplice of another rowdy and is presently accused in 6 cases including 3 murder cases.  He is accused in the murder of Shrinivas Bajal and Vikki Boloor. Only recently was he released on conditional bail from the jail and as per the condition, he had presented himself at Kankaady Police station on Wednesday. The operation was conducted by CCB police and Kankanady City police station staffs. No further information is available.
