Over Rs 19L gold seized at MIA

Custom officials at Mangaluru International Airport thwarted gold smuggling bids in two separate cases here.
In the first case, the passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi to Managluru by AI Express flight IX816 was intercepted by the officials based on profiling. Upon inspection of his baggage and detailed interrogation, officials found 128 grams of gold (24-carat purity), valued at Rs 8,06,400, in paste form concealed within a mobile cover.
In the second instance, a passenger who arrived from Rasal-Khayamah to Mumbai by Indigo Flight No 6E1492 and then to Mangaluru Airport by Indigo Flight No 6E6674 was intercepted on February 14 based on intelligence received from the Calicut Customs Preventive Unit. As a result of scanning of check-in baggage and detailed interrogation of the passenger, 189 grams of gold of 24 carats, valued @ Rs. 11,90,700, in paste form concealed in an envelope in a trolley bag was recovered from him.
