Patient killed, 14 injured in ambulance-SUV collision

Kumble: A fatal collision between an ambulance and a Tata Sumo vehicle claimed the life of a 50-year-old patient and left 14 students injured near Shiriya Bridge here.

The deceased Suresh Kumar (50), a resident of Kadachira, Kannur was suffering from pneumonia and was being shifted from Pariyaram Medical College Hospital to a hospital in Mangaluru in an ambulance. He sustained serious injuries in the mishap and died on the spot.

A few of those injured, identified as Nibila (14), a resident of Mogral Puttur, Nasriya (11), Bashila (13), Basit (8), Mohammad Bakr (15), and Monuddin Barisha (11), all residents of Mogral, were admitted to District Cooperative Hospital, Kumble. Eight others have been admitted to a private hospital in Bandyod.

Police have registered a case against the ambulance driver, Vithin from Pariyaram, in this regard.
