Bengaluru: After Pink autos, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) plans to roll out woman friendly pink buses in the city.
Bengaluru mayor R Sampath Raj is contemplating on introducing pink buses to ensure women safety.
The suggestion came up in BBMP special council meeting with the BMTC officials on July 28.
Under Nirbhaya scheme, 12 ‘Pink Sarathis’ with all women-staff will be inducted into the BMTC’s fleet.
Meanwhile, the Mayor said that the pink buses are for only women passengers in the city and is not necessary that it has only women drivers and conductors. BMTC had earlier launched pink seats in buses, which were meant for women.
CCTV cameras will be installed in 1,000 buses and fitted with the SOS (emergency response) system. Waiting lounge for women passengers will be opened at 10 Traffic and Transit Management centres. Over 1,000 women will get training in heavy vehicles and 40,000 staff will be sensitised about women passenger safety.
The Mayor said he will request 24*7 metro services from Bengaluru Metropolitan Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). However, BMRCL’s chief PRO UA Vasanth Rao did not comment on the request.
