Police arrest youth for disguising as woman wearing burqa

Kasaragod: Police have arrested a youth for disguising as a woman by wearing a burqa and sitting in the midst of women at an Uroos programme here. The arrested youth is identified as Abdul Shahid (30), a resident of Noor Manzil of Kovvalpalli, Kanhangad. He is currently in police custody.

Uroos programme was in progress at Kumbla near here on Friday November 2. A few lady volunteers at the programme grew suspicious about the movements of a person wearing burqa and seated among the women. The informed the issue to the male volunteers.

Acting on the suggestion of the male volunteers, the female volunteers approached the burqa clad person and investigated. When they lifted the veil from the face, they were shocked to see that it was a man.

The accused Abdul Shahid tried to escape from the spot immediately. However, he was chased and arrested in the vicinity of Kumbla railway station. Apparently, he was wearing the burqa over his trousers and shirt.

Mr Shahid was later handed over to the police for further investigation. The police are also trying to ascertain if the youth has been involved in similar crimes in the past.
