Mangaluru: Four policemen, including a Bajpe police inspector, have been suspended for allegedly assaulting three youths during the questioning related to an argument at a shop near Kateel temple, said Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar on Monday.
He said that police inspector Sandesh, and police personnel Praveen, Sunil, and Imtiyas have been suspended.
The police commissioner told the media that a complaint was raised against 4 persons for allegedly misbehaving and assaulting three youths at the Bajpe police station. An inquiry led by Deputy Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar found the allegations to be prima facie true.
Following the findings, disciplinary actions have been initiated against the erring policemen and they have been suspended until further orders, he added.
The Compol also said that a thorough investigation into the matter will be carried out under the leadership of DCP Hariram Shankar.
Meanwhile, two of the youths injured in the assault are receiving treatment at Wenlock Hospital, whereas another is admitted into a private hospital in Kateel, Shashi Kumar added.
Case details:
A few days ago, the Mangaluru Assitant Commissioner had ordered the closure of shops at the temple at Kateel. However, many shops remained open for business.
The three youths had questioned about this with a coconut vendor, which had led to an argument. Later, the youths were asked to report to the Bajpe police station. During the questioning, the policemen are alleged to have beaten the youths.
