Mysuru: Karnataka Police officials have submitted 1499-page chargesheet in connection with the Mysuru gangrape case.

Police officials on Sunday said that six accused have been named in the chargesheet submitted before the local magistrate court and charges against one accused have been dropped as he did not have a role in the incident.

Police documented the remaining defendants under IPC divisions 397, 376B, 120B, 334, 325 and 326 and others. Police said the court took up the case.

The incident took place on 24 August. The victim went to a secluded spot near Chamundi Hill after school with her boyfriend.

The seven miscreants attacked them, sexually assaulted the woman and demanded Rs 3 lakh ransom from the youth. Later, the victims were admitted to a private hospital. Police have arrested seven people in connection with Tamil Nadu.

The incident caused outrage in Karnataka when student organizations took to the streets to demand the arrest of the culprits.

However, the victim returned to her birthplace and remained in contact with the police for a long time. However, the police kept in touch with her and managed to convince her to make a statement before the magistrate. Karnataka’s Prime Minister Basavaraj Bommai made this statement on the floor of the Legislative Assembly while answering a question about the gang rape incident to Siddaramaiah, opposition leader, in September.

“Karnataka police took the case of Mysuru gang rape very seriously. The victim came down from her place to Mysuru and accidentally recorded her statement on Wednesday. The police kept in constant contact with her parents and convinced them to record her statement. “The government will demand the death penalty for the accused,” Bommai said.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah attacked the ruling BJP, especially Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, for being callous and as the case was registered after 15 hours of the incident.

Siddaramaiah claimed the victim sustained injuries and the gynecologist who tested her noticed bleeding from private parts she (doctor) wrote in her observations. Even then, police were waiting for the boy’s statement to register the case, he noted. Bommai defended that there was no excessive delay in registering the case. In the rape case of the law graduate in Manipal in 2013, there was no FIR and the statement for much longer.

Jnanendra said, “We are all worried about our daughters. Even I have a daughter and you (Siddaramaiah) have a daughter. Although she’s going to a neighborhood, we ask her to be careful. However, Gandhiji’s statement about women moving around freely around midnight is ideal. The situation on the ground is different, “he defended his statement, blaming the victim for going out late at night.
