Publicly humiliated by girlfriend’s father; youth commits suicide

Udupi: A 22-year-old youth, who consumed rat poison allegedly after being rebuked by his girlfriend’s father died without responding to the treatment on  September 17, Monday.

The deceased, Sooraj Suvarna, a Puttur resident resorted to the extreme step, days after Viroopaksha (father of his girlfriend) publicly insulted and slapped Sooraj at his workplace.

Unable to bear the humiliation he was subjected to, a dejected Sooraj decided to end his life, and on September 15 he consumed rat poison near Vishnumoorthi temple, Kemthooru here. Though Sooraj had immediately taken to KMC hospital, Manipal he passed away two days later, on September 17, without responding to the treatment.

A case has been registered at Udupi town police station.
