Renowned Writer Chandrashekar Patil Elected as President of 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana

Talapady: Renowned Kannada writer Chandrashekar Patil, popularly known as ‘Champa’ has been elected as the president of 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana (National Level Convention of Kannada Language and Literature) scheduled to be held from November 24 to 26, 2017 in Mysuru.

The decision was taken in the 101th meeting of Kannada Sahitya Parishat held at Talapady near Mangaluru city on Monday and Parishat President Manu Baligar announced the name of the president of the Sammelana.

Patil had served as an English professor at Karnatak University, President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and as Chairman of Kannada Development Authority. He recently returned his Pampa Award, the highest literary honour of Karnataka state government to register his protest against assassination of his friend, Kannada scholar MM Kalburgi.

Earlier, Kannada Sahitya Parishat had decided to hold the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana by 2017 as state assembly elections scheduled for 2018. Issues including, separate state flag for Karnataka, reservations for Kannadigas in banking sector, significance of primary education in Kannada or mother tongue and other issues are expected to be discussed in the Sahitya Sammelana.
