Shopkeeper sexually assaults woman to avenge humiliation

Bengaluru: A 55-year-old shopkeeper assaulted and attempted to rape a 28-year-old woman as an act of revenge after being publicly humiliated by her on Monday, February 17.
The incident occurred in Makenahalli, Bengaluru. The accused and the victim are residents of the same area.
On Monday morning, the man had allegedly teased the woman while she on her way to the office. The woman threatened to beat him with slippers if he indulged in eve-teasing the next time. This occurred in front of many people which had caused humiliation to the man.
Later in the day the man, knowing what time she returns from office, hid behind a tree and when the woman arrived grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. The woman managed to escape from him and asked for help from a woman passerby who threatened to hit the man with stones whereafter he ran away.
On learning of the attack, many from the neighbourhood nabbed the man, attacked him and handed him over to police.
The man has been sent to judicial custody.
