Former MLA Srishailappa Bidarur collapses at Congress party meeting, passes away

Bengaluru: Former MLA from Rona-Gadag constituency, Srishailappa Bidarur passed away in Bengaluru on Friday due to cardiac arrest.
Srisailappa Bidarur was in Bengaluru for a meeting of the Congress party ticket aspirants for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls. He collapsed as soon as the meeting started at Prashti Village in Varthur. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, but passed away without responding to treatment.
Srishailappa was a two-time MLA from Bidarur Rona and Gadag constituencies.
As an influential Lingayat leader, Srishailappa Bidarur was close to former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, when he was in the BJP. After not getting a BJP ticket in the 2018 assembly elections, he distanced himself from the party. He later joined the Congress in 2019. This time, he was seeking a Congress ticket.
