Bengaluru: Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced the formation of a Self-Defense Army in the State to be implemented by the Home Department.

The minister was speaking at the inauguration of an unarmed self-defense training program organized by the Karnataka State Reserve Force (KSRP) for women college students in Bengaluru on Tuesday on the occassion of the International Women’s Day.

“Providing self-defense training to college students is commendable. The safety of women is a big challenge in today’s advanced times. Women need to be strong enough to defend themselves. This requires self-defense training. KSRP’s plans to provide such training to school and college students is much welcomed. I would like to convey my congratulations to Director General Praveen Sood and KSRP chief Alok Kumar for this initiative,” Bommai said.

“Against this backdrop, a state-level project will be implemented, a self-defense army would be created. This project has been discussed with the Director General of Police and senior police officers. The proposal has been sent to the Finace Department. It would be implemented in the State on April 15,” the minister announced.

“Special training is needed for women police personnel in the State. Thus a special training school will be opened for them. This will improve the performance of women police personnel and further strengthen law and order,” the minister added.

“KSRP has always been instrumental in maintaining the law and order in the State. The role of the KSRP is crucial in successfully suppressing riots and teaching a lessons to law-breaking people. This organisation is our pride,” Bommai said in praise of the KSRP.
