‘Surahi’ vs Fridge: Twitterati divided over Anand Mahindra’s post on which is better

Anand Mahindra has once again managed to attract the attention of social media users with the help of his witty tweets. The Twitter handle of the Mahindra group Chairman is full of interesting and unique tweets that often boost the interest of the viewers to its brink.

Mr. Mahindra is a huge fan of the things that are Indian and often shares his love and support for the “desi” movement.

As it is the summer season in India, Mr Mahindra has shared a light-hearted distinction between the “surahi” and the fridge. For the uninitiated, a “surahi” is a clay earthen pot/container that keeps the water cool in summer months, also the water thus consumed from it is considered to be healthy and safe.

“Frankly, the Surahi is also superior from the point of view of design & aesthetics. In a world increasingly preoccupied with being planet-positive, the humble Surahi could become a premium lifestyle accessory,” Anand Manhdra wrote along with the pics listing the pros of surahi.

An earthen water dispenser is affordable, portable, and more durable than a fridge, he added as the benefit of using a surahi. On the other hand, the refrigerator costs Rs 10,000, can only last 7 to 15 years, is high on maintenance, consumes electricity, and is not portable, the post read.

Since being shared, Mr. Mahindra’s post has become a hot topic and a room for further debates online. Users’ opinions were divided, with some agreeing with Anand Mahindra’s assessment and the rest calling it impractical.

”Surahi is only for storing water. Refrigerators have multiple functions. Those who have a refrigerator also have Surahi as it enhances the taste of water and also keeps it cool during summer. We can not compare both, sir,” one user wrote. Another commented, ”It’s hard to believe that you can say things like this. Seriously.”

Responding to it, Mr. Mahindra wrote, ”It was clearly a light-hearted comparison, so fear not, the mighty fridge is no danger of extinction!”

Do you agree with Anand Mahindra or agree to disagree with his opinion?
