Surprise checks at bars by police looking for anti-social elements

Mangaluru: A surprise check was conducted by the police at leading bars in the city with the aim of finding out the presence of anti-social elements.

It is learnt that the sudden checking was undertaken by the cops as a precautionary measure against occurrence of unsavoury incidents, and to check for the presence of drugs and other intoxicants, lethal weapons which might lead to violent incidents.

According to the police, there menace caused by drunkards and hooligans in front of bars has increased since sometime. Apparently, drunken people are raising a din near the bars and the trend is on the rise. Inebriated people are causing nuisance to other people. Besides, some miscreants have been misleading youngsters in the city with the help of drugs and lethal weapons.  A number of complaints regarding this trouble have been received.

The people of the city in general feel that the police check against this backdrop in bars in the city is an appreciable action.
