Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Harbor’s Association held a symbolic protest, holding hanging ropes near Bunder in the city on Thursday, December 5 over the steep hike in onion prices.
The protestors, led by Mangaluru Harbor’s Association’s leader B K Imtiaz voiced dissent that prices of onions have not reduced despite importing onions from abroad.
Mangaluru Harbor’s Association member Hasin Monu has said,” The sale of onions has decreased drastically due to the price hike and we are not receiving an ample amount of onion in the market as well. As a result, many daily wage labourers have lost their job.”
Speaking about their protest, he said, “We are in a situation of committing suicide due to unemployment created in the market hence we are protesting with symbolic hanging ropes to show this to authorities.”
