Mandya/New Delhi: Tamil Nadu government has filed a petition before Supreme Court on Wednesday and urged the court to direct Karnataka government to release water from its KRS reservoir to Tamil Nadu immediately. In the petition filed, Tamil Nadu government said, Karnataka government has failed to follow earlier verdict of the Apex Court and it is yet to release 5.966 TMC water from KRS. In an order earlier this year, the Supreme Court asked Karnataka government to release 2000 cusec water from KRS to Tamil Nadu on daily basis until its next order.
Meanwhile, farmers in Mandya, Mysuru region have been protesting for the last 6 days as the state government has raised the outflow of KRS dam to Tamil Nadu even if the region is under acute water shortage amid weak rainfall. Protests by the farmers in Karnataka are expected intensify further following the move of Tamil Nadu government on Cauvery water.
