Thirthahalli: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai flagged off development projects worth Rs. 618 crores here on Sunday, November 27.

Addressing the gathering he said, “Our government has administratively sanctioned an amount of Rs. 618 crores towards several development projects. The drinking water project under the Jal Jeevan Mission is completed, as a result of which every household will now be getting pure drinking water”.

“Under the guidance of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, we will address and try to resolve the issues related to the Malnad region. With respect to the issues related to the people living alongside the Sharavathi river, a survey will be conducted and will report the same to the Centre. By December we shall be able to resolve their issue.”

Meanwhile, he lamented the previous governments (JDS, Congress) for not resolving the issue and trying to colour it politically.

On arecanut plantation and black spot disease related to it, Bommai said, “The arecanut plantation is spread across 42,000-hectare land. We will take every measure to safeguard the plantation as well as take care of the people of Malnad and this region.”

“Due to continuous rains for the past two years, the areca leaves have been infected with black spot disease. This is seen in abundance in the Malnad region. Currently, the government has released Rs. 10 crores towards the control of the disease. Once the experts submit a detailed report on it, we will sanction the amount as per the requirement. Our government is always with farmers.”
