Mangaluru: In a major relief for residents of Mangaluru, the water level in Thumbay dam has risen marginally following the rainfall in the catchment areas of River Netravati.
For the past several days, the dip in the water level at Thumbay dam had forced the district administration to resort to rationing of water in order to meet the drinking water needs of the city.
As per the existing rule, the supply of water is deemed to be stopped from 6 am on June 12. The rationing policy may be dropped if the water level rises significantly, said sources.
Meanwhile, the water level recorded at the dam on Monday evening was at 2.16 meters i.e a six cm rise from the morning level of 2.1 meters. This despite the fact that the dam water was pumped throughout the day implying an inflow of water into the dam.
