Udupi: BJP’s Shashiprabha unanimously elected as Kaup taluk panchayat president

Kaup: BJP’s Shashiprabha Shetty has been unanimously elected as the first president of the new Kaup Taluk Panchayat and UC Shekhabba Uchilla has been elected as the vice president.

The elections to the taluk panchayat were conducted on August 10 as per a different roster notified by election officer Kundapura Sub Divisional Officer Raju K as there were no members in compliance with the earlier roster of Backward Class B woman.

The Congress objected to this and approached the High Court. The High Court gave its verdict on October 20.

Accordingly, election officer Raju K declared the results on Tuesday, November 3.

The taluk panchayat has total seats of 12. BJP has 5 seats and Congress 7.

For the post of president BJP’s Shashiprabha Shetty and Congress’s Renuka Putran were in the fray. While for the vice president’s post BJP’s Keshav Moily and Congress’s UC Shekabba contested.

MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Tehsildar Muhammed Ishaq, Chief Officer Venkatesha Navda, Kaup Town Council President Anil Kumar, Planning Authority Chairman Sudhama Shetty Mallar, Taluk panchayat Executive Officer Vivekananda Gavkar, Zilla panchayat deputy president Sheela Shetty, Zilla panchayat member Shilpa Suvarna and other were present in the event.
