Udupi: Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Management Plan (KUDCEMP) officials have informed that there is plan to draw water from Varahi River to provide drinking water to Udupi city and to upgrade the water treatment plant (WPT) and the water distribution system.
The officials were speaking at a corporation meeting held under the leadership of MLA K Raghupati Bhat and informed that the plan to draw water from Varahi at the cost of R 122.5 crore will materialize. This will be implemented under the AMRUT plan. The WTP at Baje wil; be upgraded at the cost of Rs 66 crore. The water distribution plan will be executed through assistance from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
These are three inter-related plans. There is a plan to draw 41 mld water from Varahi. The plan has been drawn based on the assumption of 135 liters of water usage per person.
Separately plan the Varahi project and the other two projects. Varahi project will not materialize easily. But do not delay the other two works by waiting for this work. It should be discussed on chief ministerial level and rectified, said the MLA.
If there is a street lamp problem on NH 66, Navayuga Company will resolve it. During electricity connection if there is any objection, we will examine for a alternate route. Otherwise the DC can put up an application with the court. Local problems need to be informed to the section officer, AEE for resolution, informed Ganaraja Bhat, Mescom Engineer.
