Udupi: Did Malpe fisherman die from COVID-19?
Team Udayavani, May 18, 2020, 12:01 PM IST
Udupi: A news is circulating at Malpe that a fisherman aboard a fishing boat has died of fever and his accomplices too have fever and cough. The fisherman might have died of COVID-19 and his body is returning to the harbour.
However, this is false news and no fisherman died of COVID-19 or is infected with it here stated Malpe Fishermens Union president Krishna Suvarna.
Suvarna added that a fisherman who went fishing a few days ago injured his hand. He was hospitalized and treated. Later, he had a fever because of the pain from the injury. However, there were no symptoms of COVID-19 on him.
Some anti-social elements are creating and spreading such disinformation on social media against the fishing community Suvarna alleged.
We have once complained to the cybercrime cell regarding the spread of such false stories. For a while that it stopped but now it’s started again. We will discuss the issue with the committee and complain to the concerned authorities Krishna Suvarna told Udayavani.
