Udupi gears up to handle arrival of people from Mumbai

Udupi: The District administration has approved a conditional sanction for the movement for the residents of Mumbai to Udupi district on Thursday, May 7.

At a meeting chaired by Udupi Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje at the District Commissioner’s office here on Thursday, a special discussion on this was held and a conditional sanction for the movement for people from Mumbai was granted.

As per sources, about 5,000 people have registered under the Seva Sindhu E Pass, of which 4,000 are residents of Mumbai. A total of 10,000 people are expected to arrive.

The conditional permission for those arriving from Mumbai has been granted in the meeting. Each person should be in Quarantine in a 14-day in school, college, hostel arranged by the district administration, and then in a 14-day house in Quarantine.

In case, if there is anyone who does not wish to stay in college, school or hostel, they have to pay and stay in Lodges.

Speaking about the approval by the government, MLA of Udupi Raghupati Bhat said, “During the meeting, Shobha Karandlaje spoke to the Chief Minister’s Chief Secretary over the telephone and said that there is a demand for people residing in Mumbai to come back to the district.

“She informed their quarantine arrangements will be made by the district and the respective constituencies. After the discussion state government has agreed to this,” he added.

Many citizens, migrant workers have been stuck in various parts of the country due to the COVID-19 lockdown imposed in March to curb the spread of COVID-19 cases.

Travelers from outer districts must register online in Sevasindhu website: sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in
