Thundershowers were reported around Karkala, Kundapur, Kollur, Siddapur, Tallur, Gangoli, Hemmadi, Uppunda, Shirur, Hebri and Kamaleshile. The rest of the district was overcast.
Coastal Karnataka usually receives the easterly pre-monsoon showers between March and May with an average of 171 millimetres rainfall.
Last year the rainfall received was 74% lower than the average.
Meteorologists say that this time as the summer rains have arrived, there is a good chance of adequate rains this year.
