Udupi: Manipal police crushes 51 modified silencers, sends out a message

Udupi: Manipal police on Wednesday February 4, in a major crackdown on vehicles operating with modified silencers crushed around 51 silencers under a road roller.
This was carried out after the district police received an array of complaints from residents about the noise menace disturbing the peace of the neighborhood with silencers that breached the noise limit.
Speaking to the reporters, N Vishnuvardhan Superintendent of police, informed that Manipal police station was flooded with complaints of youths traveling around with modified silencers, which became an acute problem on weekends.
He further informed that the staff from the police station carried out a special drive in order to identify vehicles with modified silencers and publicly destroyed such silencers to send out a clear message.
Explaining that the maximum sound permissible as per the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act , SP said that it ranges from 80-91dB and the prescribed level is at least 80dB for two-wheeler motorcycle and 91dB for passenger and commercial vehicles.
