Udupi: For the first time, the district administration is hosting the Agnipath rally for recruitment for the Indian Armed Forces. About 6800 Agniveer aspirants will undergo physical fitness tests during the rally held from July 17 to July 25.
Indian Army had held a computer-based Common Entrance Examination (CEE) for the selection of candidates under the Agnipath Scheme of recruitment. About 6800 candidates from 11 districts had cleared the cut-off and have been asked to attend the fitness tests.
Preparations have been completed for the rally at the Ajjarakad stadium. About 600 to 1000 candidates will be screened every day.
This is the third Army recruitment rally being held in Udupi. The district hosted rallies in 2013 and 2020. Notably, this is the first army recruitment rally under the Agnipath scheme being held in the district.
Sadly, very few candidates from Udupi have cleared the CEE. According to Army officials, of the 6,800-odd candidates, only 59 youths are from the district. Awareness camps are being held in schools and colleges to encourage youth from the region to join the defense forces, they added.
