Udupi: Browny from Udupi takes charge at the position of Arjun, who created history in the district police canine unit by solving the highest number of criminal cases.
SP Laxman B Nimbaragi had selected browny for the district canine unit when he was a 3-months –old pup. From, here it was directly taken to Adugodi police canine training centre in Bengaluru for a special training for six months. It secured the “B” rank by passing the final test there.
Quick Browny
After getting trained under the specialists of the various crime divisions, browny garnered the appreciation of its officials for its skill. The fame of participating in the state level parade even as he was getting trained in Bengaluru goes to Browny. The department maintains extra care when it comes to the selection of dogs. Doberman breed is reviewed for its agility and perception.
A painful adieu to Arjun
Arjun has retired from service after giving his service for 9 years in 500 cases, of which he tracked the accused in 120 cases and 5 important cases.
This was the key detective dog for the district police department. It received its training at the police dog training centre at Adugodi in Bengaluru and was inducted into the Udupi crime detection unit on Feb 7th 2011.
Provided an important clue
Browny provided vital assistance in finding an important clue which led to the arrest of the accused in the 2015 sensational murder case of a girl student from Byndoor. As per the rules, dogs that are retired from service may conditionally be taken by the dog handler of the armed reserve force.
“In the police department, it is normal for dogs to be retired after a service period of 10 years. However, since Arjun is suffering from hemorrhoids which is turning serious, the department announced Arjun’s early retirement even though a year was remaining for his natural retirement. Through its very sensitive senses, it gave essential clues which helped in nabbing the accused in various criminal cases,” said Penchal Rao, Arjun’s dog handler, police canine unit, Udupi
