Mangaluru: A person assaulted Mushtaq Patla, who is a member of Ullal city municipal council and represents Kallapu Babbukatte ward of Ullal city municipality on Sunday August 10.
The alleged assaulter is identified as Jaleel, brother of a former municipal councillor from Kallapu Babbukatte, Usman Kallapu.
Mushtaq was engaged in the work of clearing the mess left behind after the flooding that took place at Kallup due to the incessant rains since a few days. During the work, an insecticide was sprayed in order to avoid infectious diseases from spreading in the area. However, Jaleel took Mushtaq to task and attacked him by posing a silly pretext that during spraying, some insecticide fell on a child. Mushtaq, has got himself admitted into Sahara Hospital at Thokkottu.
It may be noted that during the municipal election, Mushtaq had contested against Usman Kallapu and registered victory. Mushtaq and his supporters have accused Usman Kallapu of attacking Mushtaq based on lame excuse since he wanted to take revenge on Mustaq because Mushtaq had won the elections.
Attack condemned by SDPI
The physical attack on Mushtaq Patla, an independent councillor representing Kallapu Babbukatte ward has been condemned by the SDPI Ullal city committee and party councillors. SDPI state secretary, Akram Hassan, and SDPI councillor, Rameez Kody, visited Mushtaq Patla at the hospital while the SDPI city committee has urged the police to register case against the attacker and his supporters for assaulting Mushtaq Patla as part of the political conspiracy hatched of Mushtaq’s political adversaries when he was engaged in relief works. The committee also urged that the accused be arrested at the earliest.
