Mangaluru: Popular Front of India on Wednesday cried foul over the arrest of its leaders by Uppinangady police under “false charges” and the lathi-charge on “peaceful protestors.”
In a press meet, PFI said that Uppinangady police had arrested 3 of its leaders without giving any reason and was keeping them in detention without any proof and that they were peacefully protesting since Tuesday morning against these unlawful arrests.
Contrasting with the police’s version of the turn of events, PFI said its protests were peaceful throughout the duration of the protest despite police provocations. “At around 9.30 PM, the police approached the protestors from behind and attacked without any provocation or reason. Many were hit and injured on the head which shows the barbaric nature of the police action,” PFI added.
PFI urged that the “false cases” against its leaders should be withdrawn immediately and they should be released without any conditions.
PFI also alleged that the police were weaving a false narrative to escape responsibility.
The organization demanded an impartial probe and strict action against the “erring officers who ordered a lathi-charge on innocent and peaceful protestors” and announced holding a march to the SP’s office in Mangaluru on December 17.
