Uppinangady: The police here have received major information in connection with the robbery of a Perne areca nut dealer.

Deepak G Shetty, a resident of Padebari, owns an areca nut shop at Perne. On October 27, at around 6:30 pm, Shetty was on his way home on his motorbike when robbers attacked him with a knife and stole the Rs 3.5 lakhs cash with him along with the gold chain around his neck and his smartphone.

The incident shocked the traders’ community in Perne. A traders’ body demanded the police to expedite the investigation into the incident as there was no development in the case even after 10 days from the date of the robbery.

The police have recently been able to find new leads in the case and have assured of apprehending the robbers soon.
