Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath on Monday urged the district administration to the decision of water rationing in the city be rolled back and water be supplied to the residents of Mangaluru city.

After visiting the Thumbe dam in Bantwal and the AMR dam in Shambhur on April 22, Kamath opined that the present water level of 5.2 metres was sufficient for daily supply of drinking water and rationing can be resorted to if the water level dips below 4 metres.

Further he said that as per the agreement with the AMR dam administration committee and the Mangaluru City Corporation, the dam water cannot be utilised for industrial requirements post November and keeping in this view rationing must be enforced upon SEZ and MRPL.

Kamath added that the legislators had not been consulted before taking a decision on water rationing. People in elevated areas of the city are facing more problems since because of air locking the supply of water has been affected after rationing.

He said that he will meet deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday to discuss the matter.
